Trustees
The Trustees are responsible for the upkeep and care of the church property, including the actual building and the surrounding cemetery, and the financial health of the congregation (corporation)
To achieve this goal the Trustees work through four committees: Personnel and Supplies, Church Property, Cemetery and Finance. Meetings are monthly on the second Monday with committee meetings held as needed. Members serve terms of up to three years following their election by the congregation and there are currently nine members.
Personnel and Supplies
Oversees the work of the custodian and orders cleaning supplies as needed. Also maintains kitchen supplies including paper goods and food staples.
Church Property
Maintains the upkeep and working order of the church building including electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling systems. Other responsibilities include grass cutting and snow removal. Committee members attempt to make minor repairs themselves while larger projects are put out to bid with local contractors. Fund raising for major projects, such as repairing extensive termite damage, has been used in the past to help keep our historic building safe.
Cemetery
Responsible for keeping records of all past burials and new interments in our private cemetery, working in conjunction with local funeral directors. Oversees the sale of new plots while preserving grave sites dating back to the 18th century. Coordinates with the Property committee on the spring and fall cleanups.
Finance
Works with the Financial Secretary and Church Treasurer on collecting monies and disbursing payments. Coordinates with the Session on the annual stewardship and budget processes. Oversite of long term investments are coordinated through the Investment Strategy Committee and our financial advisory firm.
With God’s grace, the Trustees will continue to maintain and protect the physical presence of the First Presbyterian Church of Blackwood.
